Karimbek

Karim had previous experience playing music and we were able to work with him creating a unique instrument.

A natural string player Karim wanted to both strum and bow an instrument so that became a key design element.

A hybrid was needed, and we drew inspiration from Karim’s cultural tradition and personal taste in refining the shape and character of the ‘Karimbek’.

An additional feature was the use of ‘hidden’ tuning pegs, protecting them from damage and being accidentally changed.

Tuning is accomplished using a separate key.

Godefroy Maruejouls made the original instrument which Karim began to use, but we gradually realised a change of shape was needed, and brought in Ian Burrows to do further work.
